Description

Clip-on earrings for people without pierced ears. This clip has a hinge locking mechanism and a round plate at the front, onto which you can glue a resin piece, a polymer clay decoration, or another lightweight ornament.

You can also hang dangling elements from the clip using a jump ring.

The back plate of the clip is generously sized and rounded at the edges, making the clip comfortable to wear.

Frequently asked questions about the product

What kinds of earrings do these earring clips work best for?

These earring clips are suited for making jewelry for wearers without pierced ears, or when you want to make a clip-on version of an earring.

This style is especially suited to clip-on stud earrings where you want a button-style top with a lightweight hanging piece below.

What can be attached to the clip's front gluing surface?

The gluing surface can hold a lightweight, flat-backed embellishment, such as a resin piece, polymer clay charm, small cabochon, acrylic piece, or other flat-back-style embellishment.

The round gluing surface is 5 mm in diameter. The embellishment should neatly cover the gluing area, but it shouldn't be so heavy that the clip starts pulling on the earlobe.

How do you glue the embellishment onto the clip as securely as possible?

Attach the embellishment to a clean, grease-free, dry surface with a strong jewelry glue, such as E6000 Plus jewelry glue.

Clean both the clip's gluing surface and the back of the embellishment before gluing, for example with isopropyl alcohol, so the surfaces are free of grease, dust, or sanding residue. Let the surfaces dry completely before applying the jewelry glue.

The gluing surfaces can be lightly roughened beforehand if needed, so the glue gets a better grip. Use the glue sparingly and according to the instructions. Let the bond cure undisturbed before wearing or packaging the piece. Depending on the glue and curing conditions, the final bond strength may not be reached until 48-72 hours later.

How heavy an embellishment does this clip suit?

This clip works best with lightweight, reasonably sized embellishments. A heavy piece can feel uncomfortable on the ear or cause the clip to shift in wear.

Favor lightweight materials for the earrings, such as thin acrylic, polymer clay, and resin pieces, small beads, and lightweight chain.

Always test the finished pair in wear, to make sure the earring doesn't shift and feels comfortable.

What kinds of earrings is this clip style not the best choice for?

This clip isn't the best choice for heavy jewelry, or for styles where you want the embellishment to hang discreetly from a separate small loop.

It also isn't suited to situations where you want the clip mechanism to stay completely hidden, since the hinged structure is inevitably larger than, say, a standard earring post.

Frequently Asked Questions About Materials and Safety

Are Steely Pop's jewelry findings compliant with EU safety requirements?

Yes. The products in our range meet the chemical restrictions applied to jewelry in the EU (such as the limits on nickel release and the thresholds for lead and cadmium).

What is surgical steel, and is it safe?

The term "surgical steel" is a general name for a group of stainless steel grades with especially good properties for skin contact. Surgical steel is widely considered one of the safest jewelry materials. Steely Pop's jewelry findings are made from steel grades 304, 316, and 316L, which are often referred to as surgical steel.
