Earring Stud 10 mm, Stainless Steel 304

10 mm earring posts are suited for making generously sized stud earrings. You can glue a resin piece, polymer clay charm, glass cabochon, acrylic piece, wood piece, or other flat-backed embellishment onto the flat pad. The 10 mm pad gives plenty of gluing surface, making it a good choice when smaller 6–8 mm posts feel too light for the size of the piece.

Choose a 10 mm post when the decorative piece is clearly medium-sized or large and needs a wider gluing surface. An 8 mm post suits many medium-sized stud earrings, but a 10 mm pad gives more support for, say, larger resin pieces, polymer clay jewelry, and glass cabochon studs.

For a round, well-balanced piece, the post is usually placed in the center. If the piece is long, asymmetrical, or heavier at the bottom, it's often best to glue the post slightly above center. This helps the earring sit better against the earlobe and keeps it from tilting forward as easily. Before gluing, it's worth testing the position by holding the piece against your ear and marking a light alignment point on the back.

Clean both the earring post's pad and the back of the decorative piece before gluing, so the surfaces are free of grease, dust, or sanding residue. Attach the piece with a small amount of E6000 Plus jewelry glue and press it carefully into place. Let the bond cure undisturbed for at least 24 hours. Maximum bond strength may not be reached until around 72 hours.

For resin stud earrings, the post's attachment can be reinforced if you like by adding a thin layer of jewelry-grade resin to the back of the piece. Use a resin that is skin-safe once cured, and follow the manufacturer's curing instructions.

With polymer clay jewelry, the earring post needs to support the piece adequately without the pad showing from behind the finished piece. Choose the post size based on the size and thickness of the piece. Smaller pieces need only a slimmer pad, while larger pieces call for a wider one. The back of the piece should be as flat as possible, so the post sits straight and the glue gets a proper grip.

The surface of polymer clay can be smooth after baking, so the gluing area can be lightly roughened and cleaned of dust before applying jewelry glue if needed. For thin or flexible clay pieces, also make sure the piece doesn't flex at the post in wear, since flexing can strain the bond and weaken it over time.

For a pair made for sale, it's a good idea to test the finished result: does the earring sit straight, does it feel light, and does the attachment stay secure?
