Description

Jump rings with 18K gold plating.

These jump rings are made of stainless steel (like all gold-plated products in our store), and the plating is applied to the surface of the product.

Use together with other gold-colored jewelry findings.

Frequently asked questions about the product

What is the 5 × 0.6 mm jump ring best suited for?

This jump ring is delicate and works best for lightweight connections, such as earrings, small pendants, bead links, and attaching thin chains. At 0.6 mm, the wire is noticeably thinner than, for example, 0.8–1 mm jump rings, so the main advantage of this ring is its lightness and delicate look.

When is a 0.6 mm jump ring too thin?

The wire thickness of a jump ring directly affects how easily the ring bends under load. If a connection is under constant tension or a heavy component is attached to it, a 0.6 mm jump ring may be too thin. For example, a heavy pendant, a bracelet clasp, or a bag charm are better attached with a thicker jump ring.

How do you open a jump ring without bending it out of shape?

Hold the jump ring with two pairs of pliers, one on each side of the ring, and twist the ends sideways in opposite directions. Don't pull the ring open sideways, as this easily stretches the round shape and makes the ring harder to close. Close the ring with the same motion in reverse so that the ends meet precisely.

How should a gold-plated jump ring be handled so the surface doesn't get scratched?

Use pliers with jaws that are as smooth as possible, and hold the ring only as firmly as the work requires. Sharp-edged metal pliers can damage the plating and leave marks, especially on a small, thin ring, so nylon-jawed or otherwise protected pliers are helpful. It's also worth avoiding unnecessary opening and closing. A finished jump ring is at its best when it's opened, attached to the piece, and closed carefully in a single step.

When is an oval jump ring better than a round one?

A round ring works well for general-purpose connections, when the part needs to move freely and the connection should stay unobtrusive. An oval ring can be an advantage where the connection is under tension. On an oval ring, the opening sits at the side, so the attached parts don't as easily settle directly over the seam. This increases the durability of the connection, which is why oval rings are often used, for example, to attach pendants and clasps.

Frequently Asked Questions About Materials and Safety

Are Steely Pop's jewelry findings compliant with EU safety requirements?

Yes. The products in our range meet the chemical restrictions applied to jewelry in the EU (such as the limits on nickel release and the thresholds for lead and cadmium).

What is surgical steel, and is it safe?

The term "surgical steel" is a general name for a group of stainless steel grades with especially good properties for skin contact. Surgical steel is widely considered one of the safest jewelry materials. Steely Pop's jewelry findings are made from steel grades 304, 316, and 316L, which are often referred to as surgical steel.

Can stainless steel cause symptoms in people with nickel allergies?

Stainless steels are well tolerated by most people and are suitable even for sensitive skin. Individual sensitivity varies, however, and some people may still experience allergic symptoms from stainless steel.

Are Steely Pop's findings tested?

Yes. Testing is part of our quality control, and we regularly commission laboratory tests to ensure jewelry safety.

You can read about what we test in practice in this article.

What does the REACH Regulation mean?

REACH is the EU's chemicals regulation, which restricts harmful substances in products and requires companies to ensure their products are safe. When products meet the REACH Regulation, they comply with EU law and are safe to use.
