Frequently asked questions about the product

What kinds of jewelry do 6 mm earring posts work best for?

6 mm earring posts are especially suited for making medium-sized stud earrings. You can glue on resin pieces, glass cabochons, polymer clay charms, small cabochons, crystals, and other flat-backed embellishments. The 6 mm pad already gives noticeably more gluing surface than the smaller 3–5 mm posts, yet it still stays neatly hidden behind the decorative piece.

When should you choose a 6 mm post instead of a smaller 4 mm or 5 mm post?

Choose a 6 mm earring post when the decorative piece is larger than a tiny stud and you want more surface area for the bond. 4 mm and 5 mm posts are more discreet for very small embellishments, but a 6 mm pad feels more secure for, say, medium-sized resin pieces, polymer clay jewelry, and glass cabochon studs. If the piece is clearly large or heavy, it's worth looking at even bigger options in the earring posts category.

How do you glue a decorative piece onto a 6 mm earring post?

Clean both the post's pad and the back of the decorative piece before gluing, so the surface is free of grease, dust, or sanding residue. Use a strong jewelry glue suited to metal and your own material. A good option is E6000 Plus jewelry glue. Lightly roughening the surface can improve adhesion, especially on smooth materials. Let the glue cure fully according to the manufacturer's instructions before using, packaging, or selling the piece.

Do earring backs need to be ordered separately for these posts?

Yes, order earring backs separately for these posts. The post is 0.7 mm thick, and all our earring backs fit this post. A metal back is usually the sturdier choice when you want the earring to be as secure as possible. A silicone stopper is a soft, lightweight option that can work well for lighter stud earrings. You'll find suitable options in the earring backs category.

Can a 6 mm post be used with a smaller decorative piece, or will the pad show from behind?

A 6 mm post is best chosen for a piece that's clearly larger in diameter than the pad, or that at least covers its edges neatly. If the decorative piece is the same size as the post's pad or only slightly larger, the metal pad may end up visible. For very small and delicate embellishments, a 3–4 mm post is often a more discreet choice.
