Frequently asked questions about the product

What kinds of earrings do 6 mm cabochon-base earring posts work best for?

These earring posts are suited for making small cabochon-style stud earrings. A 6 mm glass cabochon, small flat-back stone, or other round embellishment of the same size is glued into the rimmed base. The cabochon base gives the earring a finished metal edge, so the result looks different from a stud earring made on a flat glue pad. This style is a good choice when you want to make dainty, clearly defined stud earrings.

Which cabochon fits this base?

The base's inner measurement is 6 mm, so a cabochon 6 mm in diameter fits it. A compatible choice is the 6 mm glass cabochon, which sits neatly in the base. The cabochon should match the base's inner measurement: one that's too small will sit loosely, and one that's too large won't fit inside the rim.

Can these posts be used to make picture glass cabochon earrings?

Yes. These earring posts can be used to make small picture glass cabochon earrings, using a 6 mm picture and a matching 6 mm glass cabochon.

It's best to seal the picture or paper first with a clear varnish, so the ink doesn't run and the paper doesn't darken from the glue. Once the sealant has dried, glue the picture to the back of the glass cabochon. Then trim away the excess paper along the edges of the cabochon, and glue the finished picture cabochon into the cabochon base. The clear, domed glass protects the picture and makes it stand out beautifully.

At the small 6 mm size, it's worth choosing a clear motif, letter, color, or detail, since a very intricate image can look unclear.

How is the cabochon attached to the earring post's base?

Attach the cabochon by adding a small amount of E6000 Plus jewelry glue to the cabochon base or the back of the cabochon, then joining the two pieces together. Use the glue sparingly, so it doesn't squeeze out over the rim around the glass. Press the cabochon straight into place and let the glue cure undisturbed before wearing or packaging the piece.

What earring backs should be used with these earring posts?

The post is 0.8 mm thick, so all our earring backs fit this post. Since a 6 mm cabochon earring is usually lightweight, a silicone stopper can work well for everyday wear. A metal earring back is a more secure and polished choice, however, especially if you're making jewelry for sale or want a sturdier feel. You'll find suitable options in the earring backs category.
