Description

Earring studs with a 12 mm cabochon setting, made of 18K gold PVD-coated stainless steel. The rimmed setting neatly frames a glass cabochon or other round decorative piece, giving the jewelry a finished look without a separate mounting.

Fits a 12 mm glass cabochon or a flat-back decoration of the same size. Attach the cabochon to a clean, dry setting using E6000 Plus jewelry glue. This style is especially suited to stud earrings, picture cabochon jewelry, and small resin pieces where the gold-colored rim can show as part of the design.

Order earring backs separately.

Frequently asked questions about the product

What kind of decoration fits this 12 mm setting?

A 12 mm round glass cabochon or another flat-back decoration of the same size fits this setting — for example, one made of wood or polymer clay.

The size of the decoration should be as precise as possible, since a cabochon that's too small will sit loosely in the setting, and one that's too large won't fit inside the rim.

How can I make photo glass cabochon earrings?

In photo glass cabochon earrings, the image is first protected with a clear varnish so the ink doesn't smudge and the paper doesn't darken. Once the protective layer has dried, the image is glued to the back of the glass cabochon. The excess paper is then trimmed away along the edges of the cabochon, and the finished photo cabochon is glued onto the 12 mm cabochon setting.

At 12 mm, the image can be slightly more detailed than on the very small 6 mm cabochons, but a clear, simple design still works best.

Can I pour UV resin directly into the cabochon setting?

Yes, you can pour a small amount of jewelry-grade UV resin directly into the cabochon setting. The 12 mm setting is small, but noticeably more practical than the very smallest settings, so you can create, for example, a simple color, glitter, or flower arrangement in it.

It's best to add the resin in thin layers to reduce bubbles and ensure even curing. Cure the resin according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Which earring backs fit these 18K PVD gold-plated studs?

Standard earring backs fit these earring studs. For the most finished result, choose 18K PVD gold-plated earring backs so the stud, cabochon setting, and back are all the same gold tone.

What isn't this cabochon-setting stud suitable for?

This style isn't suitable for decorations with an uneven or strongly curved back, or ones that are the wrong size for the 12 mm setting. It's also not the best choice if you don't want any rim showing at all around the jewelry.

The cabochon setting is designed for round decorations that sit flush against it. For irregular resin pieces, flat polymer clay jewelry, or freeform pieces, a flat glue-pad earring stud may be a more practical option.
